Snowmaggedon Part 2, and So Much More!

Wow, a LOT has happened since my last post. I keep meaning to write on here, but then I get distracted! I've had a lot of school work, and now that Michael is here, I have someone to talk to and keep me company. It's the best, and I'm so glad he's here with me.

So quick update on my classes:
  • World Geography: A yay!
  • Intro to Computers: A yay!
  • Human Sexuality: A yay!
  • Fitness Walking: A (seriously, is it possible to NOT get an A in this class?)
  • Nutrition Concepts and Controversies: C (I feel like I should be sad about this, but it's the highest grade in the class right now, because as of 2 weeks ago, the WHOLE class was failing. I got a B on the test so it bumped my grade up to a C. I'm hoping I can keep it at a C or higher, because if I can keep it at a C, then I make the dean's list! I went and spoke to my teacher, and unfortunately there is no extra credit option, but I'm doing everything I can to keep my grade up!)
After we had a week off from the 2" of snow that shut the whole city down, we had ANOTHER one. This one, though, I will give credit was bad. We had 3" of ice fall and then about 5" of snow. Not incredibly a huge deal for back home, but horrifying here. Michael and I were once again worried about what would happen here, so we went to the grocery store before the storm hit. We went too late....we got there at about 7:30pm.

We walked in and saw that there were no carts. Never a good sign. So we went back to the parking lot and grabbed one. Then we went back inside. THERE WAS NO BREAD. I'm not kidding. We were laughing so bad, but then at the exact same time thinking, crap...we're not going to be able to buy any food. There was also no produce, the only fruit was watermelon and absolutely no meat. I've left some pictures below of the grocery store.

The next day I had no school. It didn't snow or rain or anything that day. I seriously could have gone to school that day. Oh well. The next day it snowed A LOT.  No school then either. We were stuck inside. That night we got a call from our friend Arianne. She lives in Duluth, MN, but we used to work with her at the Old Broadway. We were shocked to get a call from her because, we don't get to hear from anyone much at home. Well, her family went on a trip to Jamaica, and their flight got cancelled and they all got split up. Her flight didn't get to leave. So she was stranded in the Atlanta airport. We went and picked her up from the airport and drove through the snow, not the best conditions I've ever driven in, but at least we knew how to get out of skids if it happened. We only had one bad skid, but thankfully we got out of it rather quickly.

We took Arianne out to the Marietta Diner and visited with her, and brought her back to our apartment. She spent the night and then we took her back to the airport the next morning. Her flight made it home no problem.

I got to go to class the next day finally and catch up on one class. It was Valentine's Day, but Michael and I agreed to postpone Valentine's Day until the following Monday because neither one of us had left the apartment to get either one what we planned.  On Sunday we went out to a Dine-In Movie Theater with Johanna and her boyfriend, Joe who flew in for Valentine's Day. It was cool, but the Lego Movie wasn't that great, LOL.

On Monday, I woke up to a little stuffed animal giraffe with some candy and a card before I left for class. I got Michael a card and then I made him a bunch of little notes to open randomly throughout the year. We went out to a sports bar that night and had a drink and watched the Olympics there.

After that I went back to studying because I had a LOT of tests last week. 4, so basically every class but fitness walking. Thankfully I did well on all my tests and can somewhat relax this week. I have a big project due in 2 weeks for my Nutrition class, so I hope I can get it done early enough so I'm not stressing about it.

As for other news. Michael and I are still trying to find a job for him. I've given his resume to Dr. Caroline who I see weekly. Her husband, David, works with computers. She gave his resume to her husband and to her CA (Chiropractic Assistant). Her CA, Chelsey, thinks she may have found a job for Michael, so we are hoping for the best. We are seeing them on Friday, so we are hoping for good news.

Michael and I have been flirting with the idea of becoming parents TO A DOG. Don't freak out, lol. We applied for an adorable puppy named Dexter last weekend after we went and saw him. Unfortunately, we were not picked and they went with another applicant. We've been debating if it's for the best, because we just found out that our apartment requires that we pay a $400 fee for a pet.  If we had known about that, I don't think we would have applied for a dog yet. Honestly, we both don't think a pet is in the budget right now, at least until Michael can find a job and we have some extra income to spend on the pet fee.

Lastly, I got an email for my orientation for chiropractic, as I start in April!! So excited!! I have my orientation next Friday and I get to meet all of the students that will be in my class. It makes it seem all so real. I'm excited too because I know these people will be my friends because we will have every class together until we graduate!! The great thing about my class too is that we start in Spring so we won't have a very large class. I'm so grateful that I've gotten this far and all of the encouragement from my friends and family has meant the world to me!

That being said, if any family out there is feeling like I need a little more encouragement and wants to come visit, I would love that! I have had a few rough days from all of the studying and tests and I really miss my family. I know that I'm excited to see some of my Dad's family at the end of March for my spring break in the Virgin Islands. I'm looking forward to that, but it sucks cause they're not all going, and my Mom's family won't be there. Hint, Hint...Come visit!! LOL, I love you all family!! P.S. Mom, Dad, Jack, I have a feeling I'm going to bawl when I get to see you at the Atlanta airport for our flight to the Virgin Islands!

That's all for now, here's some photos of what's been going on lately!

Michael and Snowmaggdon!!!

A lot has happened since my last post!!

Michael and his mom, Faye, finally got here on Thursday, January 23rd around 4:30pm!! I was so  worried about them because they had to drive through a blizzard back home first before they could start their journey towards the south! They drove non-stop and were surprisingly not as tired as I was expecting them to be!! I was so excited when they got here!! Loneliness is not for me!! LOL. We unpacked Michael's car and then I gave them a tour of the apartment complex. After that, we drove to LIFE so that they could see my campus and then we ate dinner at the Marietta Diner.

Friday, I had to go to class, so while I was away, Michael and his mom rested and Michael started settling in and unpacking. That night, Faye's cousin and his wife who don't live very far away met us for dinner at P.F. Changs.  It was so nice to meet some more of his family, and now we have someone else who lives near us! After dinner, they came over and we visited for about an hour before they headed home.

On Saturday, we had a few hours before Faye's flight left that night, so I took them to Downtown Atlanta and we went to the Georgia Aquarium and ate lunch at the CNN Center. After being Downtown, we drove Faye to the airport and made sure she got to security before we headed back home. Faye did end up making it home safely, but once she landed in Fargo, she had to stay 2 more nights because of a really bad blizzard back home!

On Sunday, I finished up some homework and Michael and I hung out around the apartment. On Monday, there was news of Atlanta getting snow, (1-3" LOL) and since I still hadn't experienced snow here, we were NOT going to take a chance on hoping we had enough groceries. So Michael finally got to see some of the area and we went to the grocery store. IT. WAS. PACKED!! Michael was laughing, but I kept reminding him, this is terrifying here, and I didn't know how bad it would be. It ended up being the best decision we made!! That night, almost every school was on the bottom of the screen saying it was cancelled. Every school, but mine, of course.

When I left for class, it was snowing, and while it brought a smile to my face, it worried me what that might mean since no one here has ever really driven in snow. My class went fine, and the second it was over...school was cancelled. Annoyed that of course it would be AFTER my class, I went to the car and thought at least it's not very far away. Let me just tell you, my school is 2.4 miles away from my apartment. It took me 2 and a half hours to get home!!! Total gridlock, I saw so many cars in accidents and I was scared that someone might hit me at any moment. I finally was able to get to a back road which is why it took me so little to get home, if I had stayed on the same road it might have taken me 4 hours to get home.

I guess I had it good, as some drivers were stuck in their cars for over 20 hours or never made it home. It's been crazy! School was cancelled the next 2 days, so I had a short week of school!! Michael was going to go job hunting, but he was never able to leave the house! Lol. I'm so glad we went to the grocery store!! On Friday after everything had cleared up, I went back to class. Johanna came over for dinner that night and then the 3 of us went to see the movie Frozen. So cute!!

On Saturday, Michael and I went on a date and tried a restaurant called Seed. It was a casual fine dining restaurant. It reminded of us of Mezzaluna or John Alexander's in Fargo and Moorhead. The food was fabulous.

Yesterday while we watched the Super Bowl, Michael quizzed me on different countries and spellings of them because I had a geography test today. I THINK it went well! We get our grades back on Wednesday, so I will let you know!

Anyway, that's all we've really been up to. Hopefully there will be no more "winter storms" and Michael will be able to finally look for a job this week. That's all for now! Here are some pictures of our trip to the aquarium, the CNN center, and finally me in the car on Snowmaggedon!!

Michael and I at the CNN Center

This is how much snow had accumulated when school was cancelled....yeah, lol. This is also right before I got stuck in traffic. Look how happy I look, I don't know that I'm about to get stuck in my car for almost 3 hours!!

I'm not sure if you can see through all of the blurriness, but those cars go all the way back to the end of that road...and I had to turn on this street.

All the cars in front of me!

All the cars behind me!!

Absolute craziness!! I'm so glad I made it back safely!! Adios everyone!
